The stomach is a muscular J-shaped organ in the digestive system which is responsible for storing the food temporarily and mixing it; the stomach is also responsible for generating the gastrices in addition to a hormone called gastrin.
It is located in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen, just behind the diaphragm.
The stomach is divided into three general areas:
- The Fundus: is the upper portion of the stomach near the esophagus.
- The body: is the middle section of the stomach.
- The Antrum: is the bottom portion of the stomach.
